The Penthouse Privatesuite Salz at Hallstatt Hideaway pays homage to the ‘white gold’ that has made the Hallstatt region world-famous. Covering a generous 108 m², this suite combines luxurious living with a private wellness experience in a class of its own. The breathtaking view of Lake Hallstatt and the surrounding Alps is omnipresent and will make your stay unforgettable.
This suite is designed as your personal spa. The absolute highlight, in addition to the two terraces facing east and south, is the Villeroy&Boch outdoor whirlpool with space for 5 guests at a time or with generosity and 5 different therapeutically effective jets for optimal relaxation and recreation. Enjoy an incredible starry sky at night or the view over the lake and into the sky during the day.
You can also book the private sauna house (€35 per person) and enhance your spa experience with a dry or wet sauna. The sauna house also offers an infrared system for therapeutic deep relaxation of your back muscles. The sauna house is exclusively available to you during your booked time.
Salt means life and, at the time Hallstatt was founded, it meant immeasurable wealth. That is why salt is still referred to as white gold today.
The Salz Penthouse Suite welcomes its guests with a generosity that is unusual for Hallstatt. Living on the slopes of the mountains that drop steeply into the lake means that every square metre of space is like heaven on earth.
Only an empress could have commanded as much space as the Praunspergische Haus occupied. In 1740, Maria Theresa had a house of imperial dimensions built in the middle of Hallstatt for her hunting and forestry master. This majestic dominance is also reflected in the 2012 extension of the roof of the Baroque house. In close cooperation with the Federal Monuments Office, an additional room was created in keeping with the original design, allowing guests from all over the world to experience the magic of the Baroque era as well as the significance of the original builders.
Spanning two floors, the house’s dominant position above the roofs of the historic town centre and its adventurous architecture can be experienced. The house is built into the rock. Floor-to-ceiling windows bring the living rock into the living experience. On the other side, the roof terrace hovers majestically like an eagle’s nest above the lake. A second terrace with a huge whirlpool provides a stage for the natural spectacle of the seasons, and every night there is the opportunity to marvel at a spectacular starry sky.
The sofa area invites you to lounge around, and the 360° Pandoretta sound system from Poet, which is elevated to ear level as a work of art by Wiener Werkstätten with carved feet, can be used to play your favourite music from your mobile phone. (A pleasure that has prompted quite a few guests to extend their stay).
A compact kitchen unit makes you independent of the local restaurants, so nothing stands in the way of healthy eating. Guests who stay in hotels a lot are particularly happy about this self-sufficiency. The tap is a true masterpiece of German engineering, made entirely of titanium and incredibly flexible. It turns tapping Hallstatt spring water into an artistic pleasure.
The bathroom delights with natural light and generous space. A fully automated hygienic toilet is a standard luxury for our Japanese guests and a new experience for everyone else. We also focus on hygiene and sustainability in our cleaning with high-pressure dry steam cleaners, as are standard in clinics.
You sleep under the roof and have two sleeping areas at your disposal. For architectural reasons related to monument protection, there is no door, but you are shielded from view. A window facing north allows a view of the church towers of the historic town centre. This is where you can really feel the extraordinary dimensions of the Praunsperger house.
You will rest on a 10 cm down topper at night and cover yourself with a cream bed. All down is not plucked but collected by hand and is therefore suitable for allergy sufferers.
A Dyson Aircleaner stands next to the bed and filters pollen and viruses from the air for allergy sufferers. A very special service for our guests.
If you would like to end the evening with a high-quality red wine or a sparkling crement, order it in advance and we will provide you with (almost) everything your heart desires.

Upon entering, you look directly at the rocks of the Salzberg and realise the location between the rocks and the lake. The spaciousness allows most guests to quickly forget the steps to their happiness. After a few steps, you turn your gaze to the other side of the lake and comprehend the dimensions of this habitat.

The Penthouse Private Suite Salt is often combined with the Superior Private Suite Heaven to offer families adequate space with two bathrooms. Then the entire second floor and attic become a 195 m² retreat.
