Ars Electronica Festival Linz
The Ars Electronica Festival is the world’s most important and influential annual gathering at the intersection of art, technology and society. Each September, Linz is transformed into a global meeting place for artists, scientists, technologists and thinkers from across the world, who come together to examine and celebrate the ways in which art and technology are reshaping human experience. The 2026 edition, running from September 9 to 13, focuses on the defining theme of Artificial Intelligence and Humanity — exploring what it means to be human in an age when intelligent machines are transforming virtually every domain of life and creativity.
The festival programme spans an extraordinary range of forms: immersive installations that challenge perception and invite wonder; performances that blur the boundary between the human and the algorithmic; conferences and panels where the leading thinkers in AI, digital ethics and creative technology share their visions and concerns; and workshops that invite active participation in the most pressing questions of our technological moment. Ars Electronica has always been ahead of its time — identifying and celebrating the creative and social implications of new technologies before the broader culture has caught up.
Linz has built its identity as a centre of digital art and technological creativity around the Ars Electronica ecosystem — the festival, the year-round Ars Electronica Center on the Danube, and the Prix Ars Electronica, which is awarded each year at the festival. The city itself has undergone a remarkable transformation in recent decades, evolving from an industrial capital into one of Austria’s most culturally dynamic and forward-looking cities. The Lentos Kunstmuseum, the Brucknerhaus concert hall and the vibrant arts and restaurant scene make Linz a destination of genuine cultural richness at any time of year.
From Hallstatt Hideaway, Linz is reachable in just under an hour, making the Ars Electronica Festival entirely accessible for a day visit. The contrast between the serene natural beauty of the Hallstätter See and the intellectual and creative electricity of the festival creates one of the most stimulating combinations possible for a culturally curious guest. Art and nature, contemplation and innovation — the Salzkammergut and Linz together offer an experience of extraordinary breadth and depth that is difficult to replicate anywhere else in Austria.
